Brawn GP's Jenson Button came first in the opening race of the new season, followed by team-mate Rubens Barichello in second place.
However, the team has since announced that 270 jobs are to go at its Brackley factory.
Nick Fry, Brawn GP chief executive, said the aim was to reduce the workforce from around 700 to about 430.
"It's very unfortunate that we've got to do that but it's the change of technical regulations and obviously we are now a private team," he commented.
Last season's champion Lewis Hamilton was promoted to third place on the podium in Australia after Jarno Trulli was handed a 25-second time penalty.
