Frequently Asked Questions

How much money do I need in my account before I start trading?
It depends on your growth targets and your risk appetite, although we strongly recommend you apply the strict risk measurement strategies you will learn on the course. Ask yourself how quickly you want to reach your goal and whether you want financial independence or simply to provide a second income stream. Ideally we recommend our graduates begin with a trading account of £2,000 or more if they are spread bet trading.

How much time do I need to devote to trading each day?
This is down to you. We recommend that our graduates spend at least an hour a day for swing trading (holding trading positions for relatively short periods). This works well if you have a full-time job and don’t have time available during the trading day.

How does the Coaching work after the course?
Included as part of the Traders University programme are three individual one-to-one coaching sessions with your very own professional trading coach. These are valid for up to 6 weeks after completion of the course. The Coach will work with you to rapidly establish your trading-style, and to plan and help implement your trading goals. We advise all our Graduates to book their three sessions as soon as possible following completion of the Traders University course.

For how long can I access the weekly graduate conference calls?
As soon as you commit to learning how to trade with us, you are invited to attend every weekly graduate teleconference call, this applies even if you sign up in advance of the next training weekend. Once you have graduated, you have access to this facility for a further 6 months after the attending Traders University.

Are there any other costs involved?
Yes, if you are trading shares, there are dealing costs to consider as well as tax. If you have a trading account of less than £5,000 - traditional brokerage firms can charge up to 1.85% of the value of the trade, plus commissions and stamp duty which may become expensive! Spread betting on the other hand is completely tax free, and there are no commissions or stamp duty to pay. The cost of spread betting is built into the trade itself in the form of a price differential between the buy and sell prices (the spread). In terms of costs, spread betting has clear advantages.

Do I need to subscribe to any trading tools before I come on the course?
Yes, the subscription and configuration of tools is covered in a the pre-course coaching software you will receive as soon as you commit to doing the course. This ensures that you are setup before you attend the Traders University training weekend and are ready to place your first trade as soon as you have finished your training.

Do I have to watch the market all day?
If your current job or lifestyle allows you to watch the markets all day, then great. If not then we will teach you how to place if done orders, stop orders and limit orders with your broker so that you can manage your trades without being in front of your PC all of the time.

Do I need a computer?
Yes - you will need a PC and broadband access to the internet.

I live outside London; how do I get to the pre-event training meetings?
The pre-event coaching week includes teleconference calls which are accessed by phone from your home along with on-line presentation material, and are chaired by representatives of the Traders University. These conferences ensure that all your setup and preparation questions are answered before you attend.

I’ve done some trading before so can I just sign up for the coaching sessions?
No, the Traders University programme has been designed to ensure our Graduates get the best possible results trading the markets. Coaching is crucial in supporting and implementing the strategies taught over the weekend. It is imperative that all delegates attend Traders University prior to commencing coaching to ensure these strategies are correctly implemented and a personalised trading plan is put in place.

I'm a beginner; is the Traders University course suitable for me?
Yes, the Traders University is the perfect immersion training for beginners and intermediates.

Can I apply the Traders University strategies to every market?
